Ansan exit the FA Cup in the third round after a battline display against K League outfit Ulsan

Jaepil Shin's 64th minute own goal sent a resolute Ansan side out of the FA Cup. In a contest that Ulsan dominated but by no means outclassed their lower league opponents, Ansan will feel unlucky not to have progressed to the last 16.

Ansan scraped through the third round against Kwangwoon University and instead shaped up to Ulsan with a much more organized game plan. the K league outfit set out to dominate and were quickly into their stride playing a cool passing game in the Ansan half. However chances were to be few and far between, threatening after ten minutes but getting nowhere near the Ansan goal as their defence, coming off the back of two clean sheets in the national league, stood firm. However cracks emerged when an Ulsan shot was cleared off the line after 23 minutes and it took a wonder save from goalkeeper Jinung Kang to keep Ulsan out just before the half hour mark. Ulsan were to remained frustrated in the opening half as Ansan kept all of their men behind the ball, only Doseong Lee having a half chance for Ansan just before halftime, seeing his shot sailed over the bar.

Ansan flew out of the blocks in the second half, a stunned Ulsan keeper managing to block a shot in the opening minutes. Ansan should have gone in front ten minutes in when a great chance was wasted before Ulsan wrestled control of the match back again. With a heightening sense of urgency Ulsan pushed towards the Ansan box, a firm catch from Jinung Kang triggering chants of "Good Catch Lad!" from the crowd. The first half siege reasserted itself, and almost yielded spectacular results as an Ulsan overhead kick cracked against the bar. A minute later disaster struck as Ansan failed to deal with a long ball and Jaepil Shin headed over an onrushing Kang and into his own net. It was a sucker punch to an Ansan display that had so far weathered the worst of the Ulsan storm. A rare Ansan free kick was duly wasted midway through, one fan observing "That went higher than Gate 17". Ansan were to create the better chances as the game wore out, a free head at the back post after 70 minutes was wasted, and an expectant crowd again saw a free header directed safely into the hand of the Ulsan keeper.

As the final whistle blew, Ansan could reflect on an excellent second half performance, mired only Shin's unfortunate own goal. However Ulsan advance to the final 16.

21. Kang Jinung MOTM
Kept Ulsan at bay for much of the match and could do nothing about the own goal. New this season, Kang is currently having a great run of form at the moment
4 8. Shin Jaepil
Had a great game despite the own goal, and should use this performance to help Ansan bounce back and climb the National League table.
2 10. Lee Doseong
A battling display in the midfield that prevented Ansan from being totally on the backfoot.
3 17. Shin Eunseok
Looked solid in the midfield and the source of most of Ansan's forays forward.

Match Trivia
Eagle eyed Premier League fans may have noticed former Reading, Wolves & Fulham Striker Seol Ki-hyeon on Ulsan's left wing. Seol was the first Asian to score in the Champion's League for Anderlecht and scored the equaliser against Italy in the 2002 World Cup.
