FA Cup Fourth Round – Ansan Police FC v. Chungju Hummel FC

Kyle Gobler @ Wa Stadium 29th April 2015

Ansan crashes out of the FA Cup at home to Chungju in penalties. A game that they really deserved to win after dominating the first 75 minutes. After 14 shots to 2 in the first half in Ansan’s favor, they were still unable to score before the break. Jo Chae Cheol ran wild in the mid-field until being forced out in the 35th minute with an injury. Seo Dong Hyun broke the deadlock in the 68th minute after heading in a well-placed cross from Jung Hyuk.

Things started to fall apart late in the second half. Chungju, relying only on counter attacks, started gaining momentum after a few poor clearances were allowing them to push forward with numbers for the first time all game. After an especially weak pass in the Ansan defense was intercepted by a Chungju player, an even worse sliding tackle in the box gifted Cho Seok Jae the equalizing penalty. During the final 15 minutes of the game Chungju’s Park Yo Han pushed up into the midfield and seemingly took control of the game himself. He was unstoppable going up the right sideline as Ansan never challenged him with the exception of two fouls. Luckily for Ansan the clock ran out.

Overtime was Ansan’s time again, dominating possession but only having two true chances to score in the 30 added minutes. Lee Jay Kwon Had the best chance in the 112th minute from the top of the box as a previous shot had the keeper beat and on the ground and he sent the rebound back in and off the post. By this point the two teams seemed to welcome the whistle and head into penalties.

Both teams opened the first round of penalties by missing the goal completely. Followed by both teams scoring their next two. On Ansan’s forth shot the Chungju keeper made an excellent save by diving low to his left and knocking away Jung Hyuk’s shot.

M.O.M. - #9 Lee Jay Kwon earns our man of the match honor as his motor ran all night and his movement off of the ball created many chances throughout. His 4 shots on goal didn’t hurt either.
